Building a Custom Home Gives You Freedom and Endless Design Possibilities

Aluminum vs. Vinyl Windows
If cared for and maintained properly, aluminum windows will last longer than vinyl windows. In fact, they could last up to 50 years. Aluminum windows are now double-glazed and as equally energy-efficient as vinyl. Aluminum windows are stronger and more durable than vinyl windows, so if security is important to you, you should take this into consideration.
Vinyl is often more cost-effective while providing better soundproofing than aluminum. They are also a more popular choice because of their more traditional appearance.
ICF Foundation vs. Standard Concrete Foundation
Insulated concrete form (ICF) foundations differ from regular poured concrete because ICFs are reinforced with steel for additional strength. The concrete also cures in any weather, and you don’t need any specialty trades to install it, framing sub-trades can actually handle the installation.
The reason why poured concrete is still popular is that it is resistant to fire, and can even help mitigate the spread of flames. Poured concrete foundations can even keep termites out, and are a more cost-effective option.

Straight Stairs vs. Circular Stairs
Straight stairs go in one direction and come in a variety of different materials. Circular stairs, however, are more compact and can add a touch of elegance to any space.
Melamine vs. Plywood Interior Finish Kitchen Drawers and Shelves
Melamine is a popular choice for kitchen cabinet materials because of its ability to resist stains, heat, and significant moisture. Plywood is another popular option because of its durability, it comes in a wide array of sizes, and is more environmentally friendly than solid wood.
Maple vs. MDF Spray Painted Kitchen Cabinets
Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is a popular kitchen cabinet material because it’s budget and environmentally friendly. It also has a nice, smooth surface which makes it easier to paint, glue and screw into. As for Maple, this is one of the strongest and most durable natural wood cabinet materials on the market.
Porcelain vs. Marble
Porcelain is a popular material because of its ability to withstand extreme moisture. However, if marble is sealed right, and maintained the right way, it too can be used in areas that often get wet. Porcelain is far more slippery than marble, but it is also much more cost-effective.
Herringbone, Hardwood, Vinyl & Laminate
Laminate floors are popular because they are cost-effective, however, some other premium options include solid hardwood flooring. Herringbone is a great choice if you’re trying to make an area look larger, like a narrow hallway. Vinyl is a popular choice because the material is waterproof, while hardwood is always beloved because of its longevity.
Heated Floors vs. Standard Floor Cost
If you want to treat yourself, heated flooring might be an option to explore. This runs anywhere from $8 to $20 per square foot, and the price may fluctuate due to the different heating options that are available. These options include electric, air and hydronic.

Precast, Limestone, Stucco, Vinyl, Brick or Man-Made Stone

Precast
With precast construction, products are manufactured in a pre-made cast or mould. They are then cured in a controlled environment and transported to the construction site to assemble.

Limestone
Limestone is crushed and used as a construction material for various purposes. Limestone can be cut into many different shapes and comes in an assortment of finishes like cream, black, gold, brown, pink and red.

Stucco
Stucco is a cement-based mixture that is used to accentuate many homes. Stucco homes come with exteriors in a variety of textures like pebbled, sweeping swirls and smooth depending on the technique used.

Vinyl
Vinyl is a popular option for homeowners because of its versatility and cost-effectiveness. Vinyl can be used throughout the home including flooring, roofing, siding and windows, wiring and cables and more.

Brick
Brick is another popular choice for homeowners because it’s one of the strongest and most long-lasting building materials. Bricks are placed in mortar in a systematic pattern to build a solid mass that is durable and can withstand the elements.

Man-Made Stone
Man-made stone is another material that has grown in popularity over the years. Engineered stone has many benefits including its low maintenance and a wide variety of colours to choose from.
Our Process
Here at 6th Sense Construction, before we initiate any custom home build, we schedule a consultation with our clients in order to gain a better understanding of their goals and needs, budget and overall expectations.
Following this, we will send you a comprehensive proposal outlining the details of the project, along with scheduling timelines and budgetary information. Clients will then have the opportunity to modify the proposal. Once everything is set, we will begin the project.
